Good Presentation Elements
1. Clear Structure
Begin with an engaging introduction, follow with a well-organized body, and end with a memorable conclusion.
Use a logical flow to connect ideas.
2. Effective Visuals
Relevant images, graphs, or charts will be added.
There is a minimum of text on the slides. Bullet points and keywords only.
3. Engaging Delivery
Clear and confident enunciation.
Relevant gestures, eye contact, including audience.
4. Relevance
The material covered is appropriate to the audience's interests and level of understanding.
Pay close attention to the subject and avoid irrelevant information.
5. Time Management
Keep to the time and pace the presentation accordingly.
6. Preparation
Consider possible questions and prepare appropriate answers.
Be sufficiently prepared to avoid stammering during the presentation.
Characteristics of a Poor Presentation
1. Lack of Structure
There is no introduction or conclusion, thus confusing the audience.
The ideas are just 'jumbled' together without sequence and logical order.
2. Overloading Slides
The slides have too much text or even irrelevant images.
The font is either very small or too obscure to read.
3. Monotone Delivery
Speaking only in a monotone or too rapidly with no inflection.
Reading directly off slides or notes.
4. Disconnect with Audience
Using technical terms and failing to define these terms for the audience.
Lack of eye contact or inclusion of the audience.
Characteristics of an Effective Presentation
1. Professional Design
Clean and consistent design of the slides, color , readable fonts.
Good use of animations and transitions to emphasize rather than distract.
2. Interactive Elements
Engages the audience with questions or activities.
Uses humor or anecdotes when appropriate to keep people's interest.
3. Strong Message
Delivers effective key messages and creates impact.
Closes with a clear call to action or takeaway.
4. Confidence and Adaptability
Smooth adaptation by the presenter in case of audience reactions or questions.
The ability to handle unexpected issues with poise.
